Materials Needed:
  • HomeRight 5” Fence Stain Pad
  • 3 -12”x 12 “ wood canvases
  • Paint tray
  • Decoart Color Stain in Rose
  • DecoArt Americana Decor Metallics in Antique Bronze
  • DecoArt Large Mandala Stencil
  • Drop cloth
  • Paper towel
  • Soft-bristled 2" angle brush
  • Painter's tape
  • Paper plate

Project Steps

Make custom boho wall art that can be used both inside and outside! Using the HomeRight 5” Fence Stainer pad is a great way to stain a flat surface quickly, with even coverage, and minimal dripping! Wood canvases can be purchased in a 3-pack at the craft store, making the prep for this project a snap. DecoArt’s Color Stain is self-sealing, and comes in a lot of colors, so there are a lot of choices, and no extra steps needed to make sure it can also go outside!

Step 1

Tarp under the surface to be used, and pour a small amount of Color Stain into the paint tray. Lightly dip the 5” HomeRight Fence Stain Pad into the stain, and apply evenly to the wood canvas boards. Flip the stain pad over the pick up the excess stain as necessary.

Step 2

Let stain dry. Once stain is completely dry according to DecoArt’s directions, place all three boards in a row, end to end. Place stencil randomly on boards. Use painter’s tape to hold the stencil down if necessary.

Step 3

Add a small amount of the Antique Bronze paint onto a paper plate. Dab a little paint on the brush, removing any excess. Using a circular, or pouncing motion, and the 2” angle brush, stencil the DecoArt Metallics paint onto the boards.

Step 4

Carefully remove the stencil, lifting straight up.

Step 5

With a damp paper towel, immediately remove any excess paint that has bled under the stencil.

Step 6

Reposition stencil and repeat. Once stenciling is complete, let dry.

Step 7

Add hangers on back, and hang your boho art indoors or out!
