Project Steps

As many of you are aware, we're a military family, and we move frequently (five times in the last seven years, but who's counting?!). That means that I do a lot of painting--sometimes to make our house a home when we arrive, and sometimes to return our walls to a blank canvas when we leave. By far, my favorite painting tool for walls and ceilings is my HomeRight PaintStick EZ-Twist. It saves me so much time because I don't have to constantly reload my roller with paint (a lifesaver when I'm up on a ladder!). It also minimizes the mess and number of supplies that I need when I'm painting. Every single room in our current home has been painted with my PaintStick.

Here's how you can use the PaintStick to paint your room in a third of the time it would take with a traditional roller and tray:

materials

Step 1

Prep your work space and surface. Remove switch plates and outlet covers, patch and sand any nail holes, and vacuum or wipe down baseboards. I move my furniture to the center of the room and cover it with dropcloths if I'm painting the ceiling, and protect the floors with dropcloths as well.

step 2

Draw your paint into the barrel of the PaintStick using the fill tube (it works just like you're filling a syringe--just pull back on the plunger) and attach the spatter cover. Master bedroom painted with HomeRight PaintStick EZTwist | 11 Magnolia Lane

step 3

Twist the handle to push the paint down into the perforated roller cover. As soon as the roller absorbs enough paint, you're ready to go to town!

step 4

Paint your room in a third of the time it usually takes. It's easy on your back, too, since you won't be constantly bending over to reload your roller, and you'll probably only need the ladder or step stool to cut in your edges, since your PaintStick extends when it's full.

step 5

Clean up is easy. Just push any remaining paint back into the can, then fill the PaintStick with water and push it out a few times. It comes apart for a more thorough rinse, too. I'll confess that I always throw my roller covers away instead of washing them off to reuse--even when I use a traditional paint roller and tray. Replacement covers for the PaintStick EZ-Twist are just a few dollars {buy them here} so I don't think I'll be changing my method anytime soon! Last, but not least, admire your work. This is the reason we paint--it completely transforms a room!
