Project Steps

We clean our bathrooms, dust the furniture, and wash dishes on a regular basis but how often do we think to clean the toys that our children play with every day? If you have small children, they more than likely put the toys in their mouths too! I know my boys would especially when they played with the pretend food. We should probably clean them more often than we do and with this being cold and flu season, it is the perfect time to start!

Step 1

Gather all the toys that need to be cleaned.

Toys that may have been taken outside like trucks, toys that end up in their mouths like pretend food, and bath toys that grow mildew and mold on the inside like rubber animals that squirt are all perfect examples.

Step 2

I like to use the jet nozzle attachment to get into all the cracks and corners.

Step 3

If there is a lot of dirt and grime, you will need a rag to wipe off the dirt after it has been loosened by the steam. When doing toys like blocks, I lay down a towel and clean several at a time. I repeat until they have all been steamed.

Step 4

When my kids were a little younger I used to aim for cleaning the toys once a month. Now that they are a little older and in school, they play with some of the toys less so every few months seems often enough. How often do you think you should clean and sanitize your kid’s toys?
