Project Steps

My husband is very allergic to dust mites, which means we take extra care in our home to keep the dust mites away.  Places like mattresses and couches tend to harbor a lot of dust mites and so it is important to clean them regularly.  With just a few minutes of work, it is easy to clean, sanitize and rid your couch of dust mites so you can have a healthier, happier home.

Step 1

Begin by removing any pillows and blankets from your couch.

Step 2

Next, you will want to vacuum your couch to remove any crumbs and dust that may be sitting on the surface of your couch.

Step 3

Then you will prepare your SteamMachine for use!

I have the SteamMachine Elite and absolutely love it!  It has a lot of attachments perfect for cleaning so many surfaces in your home, including a triangle mop pad for your floors, a fabric steamer, and so much more.

The SteamMachine can kill dust mites and get rid of 99% bacteria, making this a killer machine for all of your spring cleaning needs!

It can also loosen dirt, grime, and grease that may be on your fabric or on other surfaces in your home.

I begin preparing my SteamMachine for use by placing the correct attachment on it.  For steam cleaning a couch, I used my fabric attachment with the microfiber cover.

Step 4

Then you will want to fill your SteamMachine Elite up with distilled water, close the cover and allow your SteamMachine to warm up.

Step 5

Before you begin using a SteamMachine on your couch, it is important to check the cleaning label on your couch.  Because we are just using water, most couches should be fine.  But do not use a SteamMachine on your couch if you are not supposed to use water on your couch or if it says not to use steam.

Once your SteamMachine is ready to go, simply pull the trigger and glide your SteamMachine attachment across the fabric portions of your couch, avoiding decorative elements and wood etc.

Step 6

After I finished steam cleaning my couch, I took the microfiber cloth and just gave any wood or metal elements a quick wipe just in case there were any drips.

And in literally just a few minutes, my couch became free of dust mites, 99% of bacteria and totally sanitized!

I love how quick and easy this was to do!
