Project Steps

Intro

I love buying IKEA furniture for my children because it is inexpensive and kids are hard on all furniture. But that doesn't mean I don't desire unique and beautiful furniture that matches my decor! This hack is a great way to add major style with little work and makes the perfect industrial kids table!

Step 1

You will want to begin by setting up your Medium Spray Shelter. It was really windy outside so I decided to set mine up inside my garage.  The best thing about the Medium Spray Shelter is that it comes with a bottom so that all overspray is completely contained. It is the best.

Next, you will fill your Super Finish Max with stain. You may need to dilute it according to manufacturers instructions (check the back of your stain can to see.) And then place the recommended spray tip onto the Super Finish Max (it was blue for stain).

Step 2

Then you will lay the pieces of the LATT table and chairs out in the spray shelter, minus the top of the table and the tops of the chairs, and spray them with your Super Finish Max.

It is best if you can get a light coat of stain on the wood, but if it is a little too heavy, it's no big deal.

Simply take a rag and wipe off any excess stain from the wood.

Let the first coat of stain dry completely and then decide if you want a second coat of stain on the wood or not. It is completely up to you and the desired look you want.

Let the wood dry completely.

Step 3

Then you will use a Dremel SawMax or something similar to cut the metal to the same size and shape as the table and seat tops. You can learn more about how to do this on my blog HERE.

Use a metal grinder to make the edges of the metal smooth and less sharp.

Be sure to use your safety gloves, safety goggles and ear protection while doing this.

Step 4

Lastly, put the table and chairs together as directed in the IKEA instructions, but add the metal in the slot with the wood table and chair tops creating a metal top on all the surfaces.  This gives this simple IKEA table a whole lot of beautiful industrial style.

Step 5

I love that my little one can enjoy her new table and I love that our kid furniture matches my style!

My little one loves to draw, paint and create and so I wanted to give her a space of her own to do this. I am also hoping that if she has a designated space for this, I will find less crayon and marker on the walls too. So we decided to do an IKEA Hack and make-over a LATT table and chairs to something functional, beautiful and totally our style. Check out our Industrial Kids Table and learn how you can recreate one yourself.
