Creating a neighborhood nook can be a great way to get to know and connect with your neighbors. The trend actually started in Austin and is known as the "Turquoise Table" movement. It is the modern day front porch that signals neighbors to stop by and chat and be neighborly. In this device driven world, it is nice to have an area that creates a face-to-face connection and a sense of community. Find out how to create a nook in your yard.
Select a spot in your yard where you would like to place the neighborhood nook. Then prepare the space for the bench or table making sure the ground is level. I selected this spot in my front yard.
Provide some seating for your neighbors. I decided to make this bench and paint it a nice white using the Finish Max paint sprayer. It created a professional looking finish on the bench and once the paint dried, I created a message that I hand painted on the bench "Have a seat and a sip".
In my community we have lots of dogs, so I thought it would be nice to offer a spot for them to have a sip of water.
Next I added some color flowers to the space to make it bright and cheerful.
Adding solar lights can make the space useable at night as well.
Add some comfy pillows to the area. Ones that can easily be stored away when the rain comes.
