Project Steps

Like many people, we end up having a big houseful of guests for the holidays. I love being able to do a deep clean before my guests arrive (that includes my sealed downstairs ceramic tile in both our guest bathroom and main living area). A few years ago, we decided to tile our entire sub-level, which I love, and it gets a ton of use, and is really durable. While we clean the floors frequently, I love the idea of being able to “mop” them, and get them really clean, without having to get on my hands and knees to scrub them.

I used the HomeRight SteamMachine with the large brush and cleaning cloth attachments to deep clean the tiles. The steam helps lift dirt and disinfect. It’s really easy, and I think, cleans much faster than a mop or bucket, without having to use chemical cleaners, or a gross wet mop I have to squeeze out. And, when I’m done, the pad goes right in the washing machine!

Step 1

Read the complete instructions, and make sure that your surface is appropriate to use the steam cleaner on. There are certain kinds of floors/ tile and grout the steamer shouldn’t be used on.

Step 2

Sweep or vacuum floor first to lift and loosen dirt or debris.

Step 3

Read and follow the manufacturer’s instructions on how to safely use the HomeRight Steam Cleaner, and how to properly use the attachments, and what kind of water to add to the machine before using.

Step 4

When the SteamMachine is ready, use the steam cleaner to go over the tile. I found that using a back and forth motion while working backward worked the best. The head swivels so you can move around tight spaces. I also liked working backwards when cleaning, so I didn’t walk over a place I had just cleaned, and also worry about slipping while the floor was still damp, or leaving foot prints on my newly cleaned floor. The deep cleaning pad helped pick up a lot of the excess moisture, so it wasn’t too long of a wait for it to dry.

Step 5

Remove any excess moisture from the floor, and let floor air dry completely before walking on it ( wet ceramic floors can be very slippery!). Then, be amazed at how much dirt your steam cleaner gets dirt and grime that you didn’t see!

Step 6

What really got me, was that even though my floors look fairly clean (they were actually recently cleaned) the steam cleaner picked up dirt and soil that I couldn’t see with my naked eye. It to make me realize my floors aren’t as clean as I thought they were, and I love how steam cleaning them really made them shine.
