Hi everyone! It's Ruthie from Refashionably Late again! Today is officially the first day of summer and I couldn't think of a better way to kick it off than with a picnic table makeover. I have always loved the look and style of a picnic table. What's even better....is a miniature one for kids! It is so adorable.
Last month I redid an old Little Tikes Picnic table. Our neighbor gave it to us a few years ago and that's when I gave it the first makeover. My neighbor and I were chatting about the makeover and told me she had an old wooden picnic table that needed some TLC. I was happy to help!
When they moved into their home about 4 years ago there was this adorable little picnic table stowed away underneath their porch. The previous owners had teenage children so I'm guessing this little table has to be around 20 years old.
I started off by giving the table a really good sand. I used my Ryobi Orbital Sander which I love because it's cordless. After I sanded it then we washed it down with a hose to get the cobwebs and sand dust off the table.
My neighbor had a can of primer spray paint on hand so I used that to prep the picnic table. It was really soaking in the paint so primer was definitely necessary!
I ran to Lowes to grab some red paint and went with acrylic latex. I debated between oil-based and water-based but I always tend to go the water-based route. I'm just not a fan of the oil-based paint clean up!
My Super Finish Max was loaded and ready to paint!
I sprayed the table within 5-10 minutes with the red paint. I'm always amazed at how quickly an item can be painted with this sprayer....and I've used it so many times!
I especially love to paint an item when the color difference is drastic. The change from the white primer to the red is so satisfying!
It turned out great and the kids are going to have so much fun having picnics outside on their "new" table.
