Project Steps

Intro

Having a light colored couch with kids might seem crazy to some, but to my family we love having it! That is as long as we have our Steam Machine from HomeRight! I have 2 micro-suede light beige couches, one in my family room and one in my living room. Both get used daily, and even though we don't eat or drink on them they still manage to get stains. So here's how to easily clean microsuede upholstery.

Step 1

Get out yourSteamMachine Model 53 from HomeRight. This Steam Machine is perfect for so many cleaning projects, especially if you want to clean without the use of chemicals. The best part is that it already comes with several attachments to use on different surfaces, including parts to clean a microsuede couch.

Step 2

For attachments I used the fabric steamer with the fabric bonnet/cover, along with the small nylon brush. The instructions that come with the machine have all parts listed in case you need to reference. After you gather the parts you'll need to add water, and not just any water. It needs to be distilled water. This helps avoid future mineral build-up in the machine. Distilled water is also a must for most microsuede upholstery.

Step 3

Once you turn the machine on it should take about 8 minutes to fully heat up. At that point, only the red light should be lit. I started with the fabric steamer with the fabric bonnet/cover on and it was perfect to steam clean a large area.

Step 4

I then used the small nylon brush to really clean some tough areas and spots. The corners were especially dirty and took a little scrubbing. I also made the mistake of using tap water in the past to spot clean, and of course those left water rings on the microsuede upholstery. This brush was perfect to remove those rings.

Step 5

After you clean everything most areas should dry pretty quickly, but if you had to really scrub some spots then you'll need to let those dry a little longer. I cleaned my entire couch in under 1 hour and it was ready to use again about 1 hour later. The transformation is pretty amazing, and cleaning microsuede upholstery has never been easier!
