Painting a basement with a paint sprayer isn’t difficult, but you do need to take a few precautions. Follow these steps to make your task quick and easy.
Hint: clean, clean and clean some more before you start painting. I used rags, brooms, dusters and more. As soon as I started up the Super Finish Max, there was more dust that started flying. I recommend using a leaf blower as your last cleaning step before you start spraying. I wish I had!
Extinguish Pilot Lights
If you have gas appliances such as a dryer, water heater, or furnace please turn off gas valves and extinguish pilot lights.
Preparation is the key
Cover up items you don’t want painted with plastic bags, or painter’s tape. The PVC pipes were painted to help them blend in, but the gaskets and connectors were not painted in the event they need to be repaired later.
Be sure to cover up water faucets and connections. Plastic grocery bags and painter's tape made this easy.
Hang plastic sheeting to block of areas that you won't be painting. Using a staple gun to attach plastic sheeting to floor joists is the simplest way to achieve this quickly.
These are the supplies you will need to begin painting your unfinished basement space. If you are working in a small space there will be some paint "dust" created when you spray with the Super Finish Max. For this reason, a respirator will help protect your lungs. There could be some paint blow back, so safety glasses are a must.
Because a primer was used, I used a rag on my head so I wouldn't end up rubbing my head up against the joists and get paint in my hair.
Just having all the pipes, joists and walls match really help it all sort of blend together and look better. In addition to looking fresh, painting everything white helps to brighten up a dark and dingy corner of an unfinished basement.
I hope this article helps you learn the ins and outs of painting spaces in your unfinished basement to make them more usable living spaces. Taking the proper preparation and safety precautions are necessary, but will make your job easier overall.
Having it all blend together really brightens up the space. There are more changes to come in this laundry space . . . one day at a time.
But for now, I'm so happy I have the Super Finish Max to make this job easier. I can't imagine having to paint all of this by hand with a roller or brush.
