If you’ve been wanting to incorporate more plants in your outdoor living space, then today’s post is just for you! Maybe you have a part of your patio wall space that is lacking something or you want to incorporate more flowers but you don’t have the room. Either way, a vertical wall garden just might be the thing you’ve been looking for. We have a space on our patio that needed a way to bring it from drab to fab! That’s when we decided to build a vertical wall garden.
You can get creative and find something to use as your vertical wall garden to place your planters on or you can build one like we did. You can head on over to Within the Grove to see how we built ours! We actually started off with an extra large vertical wall garden and cut it down when we realized the weight of it made it a little unstable. So, keep that in mind!
Once you have your vertical wall garden and planter boxes ready, you’ll want to make them your own by giving them a fresh coat of paint. This can quickly and easily be done by using your Super Finish Max Paint Sprayer. Use either a tarp or a HomeRight spray shelter and place your pieces on it to be painted. I ended up leaning my vertical wall garden against a tree (protected by a tarp) so I could easily paint all the nook and crannies.
It’s time to get your Super Finish Max Paint Sprayer ready which can be done in just a few minutes. Make sure you have the green tip on your sprayer since we’ll be using latex paint. Pour your exterior latex paint into the cup a little over halfway. Insert the tube on the sprayer with it pointed away from you and you’re ready to attach your cup to the sprayer. That’s it! Simply plug it into the extension cord and get started.
You’ll want to make sure you keep a steady hand as you slowly move left to right, top to bottom on your pieces. I’ve found spraying at least 12 inches away gives me the best results! For the vertical wall garden piece, I made sure I got every side of the piece minus the back since you won’t see it. You’ll quickly realize how fast this project goes because of the Super Finish Max Paint Sprayer. Without it, you’d be here all day just to get everything painted.
For the planter boxes, don’t worry about the inside except for the upper edge. It will be filled with dirt and beautiful flowers so you won’t even see it! Quick reminder: don’t forget about the underside of the item you’re spraying. Since this will be displayed on a wall, you’ll need to paint the bottom as well.
Once all of your pieces are dry, you’ll want to attach your planter boxes to the vertical wall garden and start planting. Use a mixture of flowy greenery, herbs, and flowers that provide a pretty pop of color. You’re then ready to hang your new vertical wall garden on your patio space. Happy painting and gardening!
