DIY Fall Sign

Autumn has finally arrived and I have been busy adding fall touches to my house this week. It is my favorite time of the year! Ever since I made a frame to go around my TV, I have loved making art and signs to cover the TV when we are not using it. This time I created a fall sign using my Quick Finish sprayer.

When I make signs I either use ⅛” plywood or hardboard because they are both thin and lightweight. They pop in and out of the frame easily. If you do not have a TV above your mantel, you add trim to your board instead. I cut the board to the correct size and placed it in the spray tent.

The paint I wanted to use was more than a year old and had been opened and used a time or two so I made sure to pour it through a strainer before adding it to my sprayer. I filled my Quick Finish sprayer with the green paint and thinned it down a bit. I was ready to paint!

The paint went on nice and even. While I was waiting for the paint to dry, I created a list of all my favorite fall things and cut them out of vinyl with my machine. If you don’t have a vinyl cutting machine, you can also write them on the board with a paint pen. You could also stencil them.

Once the board was dry and had cured overnight, I added chalk lines with a ruler so I could ensure that I was placing the vinyl on straight. Peeling the transfer tape back was so satisfying! A damp rag got rid of the chalk lines and I was ready to place it in the TV frame.

I added a few more fall touches and the mantel was done! What are your favorite things about fall?
