How to Grill Fruit Using an Electro-Torch Charcoal Starter
With summer grilling season heating up, this is the perfect time try out the new Electro-Torch! It will make all your summer BBQs, bonfires and nightly dinners on the grill go so much smoother!
It couldn’t be easier to use! Just plug it in and use the red toggle switch to begin lighting your grill or fire immediately and without any lighter fluid. The benefit of no lighter fluid means it’s safer and your food won’t taste like chemicals! While you can use the Electro Torch on a bonfire, a smoker, a wood burning fireplace and more, I chose to use it on a charcoal grill for my 1st use
I filled the grill with lump charcoal and then pushed the red toggle switch on the Electro-Torch forward (towards the charcoal). Hold it on top of the charcoal, but do not burry it underneath the charcoal.
It starts heating up within seconds and you’ll start feeling the heat coming off of it in waves. This means that it’s working! You should also start seeing sparks igniting the charcoals. Just keep holding the red switch forward until you have the charcoal well lit. If you push the red toggle switch backwards (towards your body) that activates the fan. This is good to use to stoke the fire to continue burning.
In anticipation of the 4th of July, or really any summer picnics, I wanted to throw together a delicious dessert board complete with grilled fruit, grilled pound cake and angel food cake slices and top it all off with some fresh strawberries and blueberries! A perfect dessert tray that screams red, white and blue!
Next I melted 1 stick of butter and then added 1/3 cup of brown sugar and ½ teaspoon of cinnamon. I brushed that all over the pineapple spears and peach halves. Then I melted a second stick of butter and brushed that all over both sides of the cake slices. You want to be sure to coat the cake and fruit so that it doesn’t stick to the grill rack. Then it was time to head outside and get the grill ready. The Electro-Torch works so quickly that you really don’t want to light the charcoal too early otherwise it might get too hot for the delicate fruit and cake slices.
I grilled the fruit for about 3-4 minutes on each side and the cake slices for about 2-3 minutes on each side. You want your fruit nice and caramelized and the cake slices to have a nice golden brown crust to them. Then assemble your dessert board and don’t forget to add whipped cream and the fresh strawberries and blueberries for that patriotic touch!
